The Grace You Don't Give Yourself

As a mom, wife, daughter, older sister, the ‘strong’ friend, ‘stellar’ employee and whatever other titles I am gifted with, I often times find myself putting my needs on the back burner. Most times I don’t even realize it. I don’t even realize that I am literally trying to create more hours in the day, and we all know that isn’t possible.

I have a habit of saying yes to all the tasks that are asked of me from professional to personal. Trying to add one more thing onto my schedule. Trying to throw a load of laundry in, make a quick dinner, spend time with the kids, meet that deadline, spend quality time with my husband and have self-care. All of that is all doable in one day right? That’s what society says, that’s what social media says. When the reality is, I am fighting really hard to get it all done and I am not leaving any energy for myself.

By the time I try to accomplish all those tasks, I am depleted, and I am not giving myself the time and attention I deserve. I preach to my clients to practice self-care but unfortunately, I could be better at it as well. I get so caught up in the hustle and bustle of life and all the demands that I normalize neglecting myself. I normalize being hard on myself for not completing all the tasks on my list, for not looking my best most days, for not wearing a smile all day and for wanting a break to just exist.

I challenge you to give yourself grace, to speak to yourself in the kind tone you give to others, to slow down, to savor the moments, to allow yourself to rest, to embrace change, to ask for help and to go with the flow. We are our toughest critics, and it is so easy to focus on all the negative things, but I challenge you to take this walk with me on a journey to be mentally well.

#MotivationalMonday Are you HAPPY? Habits That Quietly Steal Your Happiness- How to Take Your Joy Back. I’ve learned the hard way that happiness doesn’t always slip away because of big, dramatic events. More often, it’s the small, everyday habits—the repetitive thoughts, the carried pressures, the roles we juggle, and/or the choices we make via muscle memory that slowly steal our joy. These habits often feel normal or can even feel productive, but they quietly eat away at your emotional...
